Boulder County in the Summertime

Boulder County in the Summertime

Here is a quick photo that gives some perspective of how the plains meet the mountains.  I took this photo from the top of the hill at Heatherwood Open Space.  The trees in the foreground are in yards in the Heatherwood neighborhood.  The largest building in town from this perspective is the football stadium on the CU campus.  I love the rural view to the east as well.

Colorado Sunset

Sunset over Longs PeakLast night we were treated to a beautiful sunset after a late afternoon thunder shower.  The colors kept getting deeper and deeper as time went on.  There was also a rainbow to the east and lightning to the south.

Friday Photo – The Flatirons Among The Clouds

The Flatirons in Clouds
We have had an uncharacteristic few days, not much sunshine and lots of rain. This morning we woke to some nice sunshine. As I was driving in early to the office I decided to take a detour to take a few shots of The Flatirons at Chautauqua Park because the sunlight and clouds looked especially interesting. Here is one of the shots I took. Have a great weekend.

May Showers Bring More Flowers

The weather is a bit more rainy than we are used to here in sunny Colorado but there is a big silver lining. We live in a semi-arid climate and we don’t get that much moisture. We need rain in the spring time to soak the soil, fill the lakes and replenish the aquifers. The rain also helps with the flowers. The slideshow (click on the image to begin the show) above shows some flower photos I have taken over the years.

A Beautiful Day for a Hike!

It finally feels like spring has arrived here in Boulder.  The temperatures are rising, the nights are not nearly as cool and the grass is changing from brown to green.  There is no greater way to appreciate the beauty than to get out in it and take a hike.  A hike in Boulder doesn’t mean that you need to hire a guide or know what you are doing.  There are lots of great trailheads in neighborhoods.  This photo was taken 100 yards from the trailhead in upper Table Mesa where Lehigh Street meets Shanahan Ridge.  Click here for a list of trail maps.  Have fun!

Spring in Boulder

The Pearl Street Mall is alive with activity. The planters are full of bright tulips and with the better weather people are enjoying the sunshine on the benches. I took this picture with my iphone with an app called Hipstomatic.

Have a wonderful weekend! Please let me know how I can be of service.
