Downtown Boulder Holiday Kickoff 2009

The holiday season in Boulder Colorado is officially kicked off!  It may seem a little early, but Santa and the popular singing group FACE helped bring in the holiday season on the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder tonight.  The concert and Santa appearance were the precursor to the lighting of the Christmas lights on the mall, courthouse and the Flagstaff Star which will all now shine until after New Years Day.

As the countdown finally made it's way to 0 the energy efficient LED Christmas lights reluctantly flickered on and the courthouse didn't light for another 30 seconds.  It was quite anti-climatic but quite funny.  Overall it was a nice event that brought people together in a festive way.  Way to go Downtown Boulder!

Organize Your Internet Real Estate Search with MySite

It's easy to find homes on the internet.  Search sites are everywhere but I know it is frustrating when the information is outdated.  It also is a big job to sort through all of the homes each time to find the new listings or the price reductions.  I can help!  I can set up an automated search that sends new listings automatically to your email.  This way you know what is happening in the market but don't have to sort through all of the homes you have already seen or don't care to view.

The best part is the website that goes along with the service.  Each of my clients can have a personalized, pasword protected site in which to view all of the information available on a given home.  On your MySite you can view, sort or delete listings so that you can easily come back and view or share what you have seen.  The site updates automatically so when a house goes under contract or has a price change you will know about it when you log in.

This is a great service and I would like to set it up for you.  I can set up searches for all of Northern Colorado.  Take a look at the video above for a quck demo on how it works and how it looks.  You will love it!

Hot Air Balloons Rising Over Boulder County Open Space

Twin Lakes Open Space is just a short walk from my house. Someone in my family is over there almost every day. It is a great place to walk the dog or take a run. It is also the place where hot air balloons take off each morning. This morning, instead of taking a run, I decided to go over and take some photos and video. This video was taken from the SW shore of the west lake. The west lake is fenced and dogs are allowed to be off leash, a luxury in the Boulder area.  I hope you enjoy the beautiful morning as much as I did.

The Story of Stuff

I was recently made aware of this video about the manufacture and consumption patterns in modern society.  It makes a very strong statement about the damaging effects of today's throw-away society.  I have embedded the video below but found a higher quality version along with good companion materials at its home website, www.storyofstuff.com

The video has been criticized for advocating completely against capitalistic principles, but I don't think that is the goal of the video.  It raises some very valid points and if we can all do a little, it will go a long way.  One point I thought was astounding, was that 99% of all goods and materials manufactured are thrown away within 6 months of purchase.  The video last approximately 20 minutes.

Homeowners Insurance

In order to close on the purchase of a home, a buyer must obtain a homeowners insurance policy.  A few years ago a property insurance deadline was added to the buy/sell contract.  This clause gives the buyer the right to shop around and make sure that an acceptable and reasonable homeowners policy is available for the house they are purchasing.  This contingency came about after some insurers, after a particularly dry and fire laden summer, decided to add outrageous premiums to mountain homes.  Many buyers were waiting until the last minute to line up their insurance and found it was too late to cancel the contract after they found out what it would cost.  The situation has settled down now but the deadline and contingency is still in place.  Here is a video that gives some good tips for those who are looking for homeowners insurance.  It is also a good idea to shop around every few years to make sure you are not paying too much.  Please let me know if you need a recommendation of a local insurance agent, I know some good ones.
